UntoldStories is an app developed by Nazario Di Liberto (“I”, “the developer”). This policy explains which data the app uses, where it goes, and how you can delete it.
In short: UntoldStories does not collect personal data. There is no account, no developer server, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking. Your stories stay on your device (iPhone or iPad) and in your iCloud.
What data the app handles
UntoldStories only handles the content you choose to enter:
the stories you tell out loud (or type and edit) and their transcript;
the tales the app writes from them, with title, text, style and date;
the covers you pick or the app draws;
a few technical app preferences (such as the backup state), stored only on the device.
Your stories may mention other people. They still stay only on your device and in your iCloud.
Where it is stored
On your device. All stories are saved in a local store on your device.
In your iCloud. If iCloud Drive is on, UntoldStories saves a backup copy of your stories and covers in the app’s private iCloud space, on your Apple Account. The developer cannot access this backup: Apple manages it under its privacy policy. You can turn it off in Settings › [your name] › iCloud.
How it is processed
Voice. When you tell a story out loud, the audio is transcribed on the device with Apple’s speech recognition. The audio is only used during the recording and is never stored or sent anywhere.
Apple Intelligence. To write the tales, UntoldStories sends the text of your story to Apple Private Cloud Compute, the Apple Intelligence service designed so that data is used only for the request, is not stored, and is not accessible to anyone, including Apple. The developer never receives or sees this data. Learn more: Private Cloud Compute.
Covers. Covers are made with Apple’s Image Playground, starting from short descriptions based on your story. UntoldStories only offers Apple’s styles and never uses external services such as ChatGPT. If you don’t pick a picture, the app draws a cover by itself, on the device.
Sharing. If you share a tale, the text of the style you are reading and its cover (with the UntoldStories logo) are passed to the app you choose (Messages, Mail…), only when you decide to.
Permissions
Microphone: only used to listen to your story, when you tap the record button.
Speech recognition: used for the on-device transcription.
You can revoke these permissions at any time in Settings › UntoldStories.
Sharing with third parties
None. UntoldStories does not sell, share or transfer your data to third parties. The only services involved are Apple’s, described above (iCloud, Private Cloud Compute and Image Playground), used on your behalf.
How to delete your data
One story: open it › “…” menu › “Delete story”, or long-press its card on Home. Deletion is permanent. The iCloud backup is updated at the next backup.
iCloud backup: iOS Settings › [your name] › iCloud › Manage Storage › UntoldStories › Delete Data.
Deleting the app removes all stories from the device.
Children
UntoldStories writes tales in a tone suitable for children too, but it is not specifically directed at children and does not knowingly collect anyone’s data. We recommend that young children use it together with an adult.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new date.
